OTTERS TO PLAY NEW YORK RANGERS

By Richard Cranium

The defending Friday night Stanley Keg Champion OTTERS will be heading to the Big Apple to take on the NHL’s New York Rangers in an exhibition game scheduled for Sunday February 8th, 2009 at 2pm in Madison Square Garden.

“We have a once a year outing and this season the team wanted to take their dogs to the 2009 Westminster Kennel Club Show in NYC February 9th and 10th,” explained Otter GM Aden Nolet. “We have a Boston University connection between David Warner and Chris Drury so it seemed a no brainer to get them to set up a game.”

“I checked the Ranger schedule and saw they had an off day before the show so I called Chris to see if there was a possibility of a game,” said Warner. “I stipulated that the Ranger players could not wear skates and had to take to the ice without sticks so the teams would be a little more even in talent.”

The Otters will be leaving the week before the game and show in order to get used to the time change.

“By us getting there early, we can acclimate ourselves to the east coast, tour Manhattan, go to the Letterman show and maybe take in a couple of Broadway shows,” added Nolet.

“The reason for going to NYC is to enter our dogs into the biggest and best dog show in the world,” voiced Jim Bohac, “playing the Rangers will be icing on the cake!”

“I live in this small apartment with my great pyrenees, Sniper Too, so it will be good for him to finally get outside,” forward Ted Brown remarked.

The Otter players are avid dog lovers and try to match the look and attitude of their pet to themselves. (click on images for larger view)
