Dave Measuring Ed's HeightBy Richard Cranium
The Otters and their last season’s Wednesday night developmental team, the Oasis, voted on their favorite players from competing teams. The announcement was made at the end of year banquet.
“We thought it was only right to acknowledge quality players from the Wednesday and Friday league teams,” explained Otter GM Aden Nolet. “The criteria in the voting were the player had to have talent, a good attitude, a willingness to sub and is not a smack talker.”
Nolet also said they tried to pick the team by position, one goalie, two d’s and three forwards but due to the fact that some players were multi-positional that was difficult to do.
The accounting firm of PricewaterhouseCooper LLP handled the vote count.
“We believe the vote count is accurate,” said A. Einstein, senior VP of arithmetic at PricewaterhouseCooper LLP. “There were some problems with hanging chads, the electronic diebold machines and some manual ballots that had ketchup and beer stains on them but we worked those issues out.”
The following are the summer 2008 FAVORITE OPPONENTS TO PLAY AGAINST:
Goalie- AMY WEIHER

“I think we see Amy out there more than any goalie. She must play every night!” exclaimed Otter d-man David Warner. “She is always willing to sub, has a smile on her face and occasionally lets me zip one in to the high side.”
Defense- DAVID TESAROWSKI

“I play against Dave on Wednesday and Friday nights and he has never maliciously laid the lumber on me,” voiced power forward/centerman Gary Ahern. “If I don’t see him on his team, he is usually subbing for another team. He’s like a big Manitoba teddy bear and looks much better out there since he got rid of those red pants.”
Defense/Forward- JOHN MACK

“I know John’s Yak team is shooting for us this Friday season,” said Alan Scheer. “John tells me this in such a nice way. No smack talking from him. He says it in all fun and with a smile; BUT I know he’s serious about it!”
Forward/Defense- STEVE BECKERT

“Steve is usually the first guy in our dressing after his game on Wednesdays and Fridays and wants to know if we need anybody,” Robert “Bo” “Cupcake” Daly said. “Just about all of our guys show up, so I see the disappointment in Steve’s face when we tell him we are full. I think he secretly wants to be an Otter like his Atris Genetics coworkers, Wally Whiteside
and Malcolm McGinnis
, were!”Forward- ART WONG

“Art is kind of sneaky out there on the ice,” quipped ageless Tommy Muthig. “When he comes down on the wing, he always tries that 90 degree move into the middle and when he gets by me, he smiles. I know Art and Chip Mesec
from my days on the same PHA Jets team. They both play that same consistent edgy game and “what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas”. Did I say that?”Forward- JON and CHRIS BEELER

“It seems that we play against the twins every Wednesday,” said Jules Nolet. “They must play all four games. I didn’t even know they were twins because one has a beard and the other doesn’t. I thought twins looked alike!”
Honorable Mentions:
JASON MOLENDA

Besides Tirso, Jason is the most dedicated person at the Ice Oasis rink. He is there almost everyday either suited up as goalie/outplayer or as the digital recorder of all the events. Without Jason, we would not have the thousands of still/video images that we all treasure. We sure hope Jason can become a regular fixture between the pipes on Wednesdays and Fridays!
TAMMY CRACKNELL
and HELEN SHAUGHNESSY
Though they are taking off Monday nights because of heavy workloads, these two play on the same team Wednesday nights while Helen plays and subs on Fridays. Tammy “the Brain” is always smiling and grins even more as she passes you on the ice. Helen doesn’t hesitate to give a friendly elbow or pleasant piece of lumber if you stand out front of the net. Besides, both know Wednesday night referees so the Desert Dogs really need to kiss ass here.
ED McKNIGHT

Former Otter forward and Oasis goalie will face us both nights this season. Ed is always on time and will surely be focused to beat his old teams.
KEN SPINDOLA

With his colored shield, Ken is most certainly a standout on the ice. He will play a good game on defense or forward and doesn’t mind subbing just like the rest of us “hockey whores”. Also this is another one of those kiss ass mentions since we see him as a ref on Wednesdays.
REX MANN

See kiss ass mentions above!
